Battlefield Acupuncture
Battlefield Acupuncture
Battlefield Acupuncture is an acupuncture treatment protocol developed by the military under the auspices of Dr. Richard Niemtzow (Colonel (Ret.), US Air Force) for the purpose of quickly alleviating pain. As the name implies, it could be used on injured soldiers being removed from the battlefield. It is administered on the ears and the protocol uses very small, special needles which can be left on the ear for 3 to 4 days, sometimes longer.
Dr. Niemtzow worked along with Terry Oleson, an international expert on auricular (ear) acupuncture, as well as Dr. Zang Hee Cho, the inventor of the PET scan, to research and determine what specific ear acu-points would best be used to decrease pain in the body by addressing the way pain is regulated by the central nervous system.
Battlefield Acupuncture is surprisingly effective in eliminating pain and can be used in a number of different scenarios: musculoskeletal pain; acute sprains/strains; pre or post-operative pain; migraine headaches; pain or injury when narcotics are not available, tolerated or desirable.
I have been trained by John Howard who worked directly with Dr. Niemtzow and I use Battlefield Acupuncture as an adjunct to a full body treatment but this approach to pain management can stand all on it’s own. It only takes minutes to administer and is offered at a reduced rate.
